a few forms come to mind... recipe for disaster, recipe for pyrotechnics, recipe for AI...
What are some requisite qualities of consciousness?
Awareness of change, perhaps.
Capability to distinguish, discriminate, compare, contrast, juxtapose & make value judgments.
Comprehension of cause and effect.
Some sense of more or less favorable or desirable outcomes, and the wit to work towards the more, at least when it counts.
Working memory, passable alertness, some sensory apparatuses...
Just some ingredients in a recipe for A.I.

DeletePain is an obvious quality of consciousness. How often we feel whether sipping a hot drink, burning a finger or even losing a love.
ReplyDeleteI've even heard it said that intelligence correlates positively with suffering, so that the smarter one is, the greater the capacity for suffering.
